Hope you had a great Memorial Day

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day Weekend. Mine was full of BBQ and friends (as it should be). I could hardly believe how great the weather was even at Stinson Beach. Here's a shot of from one of the two BBQ's.

Do you need some help organizing?

I just found this website that helps you create to-do lists and orgainze things online, Backpackit.com. Seems like a good idea for people who are orchestrating their wedding plans with one or more people who don't live close by. Just a thougt...

Recent Sample

Here's a shot from a recent wedding that I find really lovely.

Cake, Bouquet & Champagne

It's kind of the perfect still life for this particular wedding. They had a very classic style at the wedding, and the red roses, golden champagne and bright silverware really fit that. I love the warm, rich colors.

Sometimes things don't look real

Take a look at this engagement portrait I shot a little while ago. It's in Golden Gate Park's Botanical Garden, but doesn't it look like a movie set? The plants kind of look "hyper-real" or something. Interesting.

Looking for a wedding planer?

This weekend I met with a great wedding planner named Morgan Doan. She has great style and a very professional attitude. Take a look at her site Events by Morgan for more information.

In general, I think hiring a wedding planner is a great idea. Often times, venues or caterers provide you with a coordinator to help run the show during your wedding (which is a great help), but having an outside coordinator has great benefits. If you hire someone early on, they will:
* help you select your venodrs
* insure you are getting a good price
* check your contracts to make sure everything correct
* work with all your vendors before and during your wedding to make sure everyhting runs smoothly
* take the burden off of you, your maid of honor and best man, so you can all enjoy your wedding that much more

Ideally, a good wedding planner will pay for herself/himself by saving you from costly mistakes and bad deals with vendors.

San Francisco Conservatory of Music

SF Conservatory
Here are a couple pictures I recently shot for a story about the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. The story was more or less about the tough road that lies ahead for these students of classical music. Fewer and fewer people go to the sypmhony every year, so symphonies are shrinking and disappearing altogether. The school is located in San Francisco's Sunset district but will be moving to a new facility near the symphony and operahouse in 2006.

I discovered a program they offer called the Music to Go. It seems like a good way to hire a student string ensemble, violinst, harpist... at a low price. Even if you are not looking for musicians, you may want to check out their site. The school offers many free concerts throughout the year.

Check out my first newsletter

I have been thinking about the fact that after my clients hire me, it's often months or even a year before we see each other again. During that in-between time, things change and evolve, so I have decided to put out a bi-monthly newsletter to keep in touch with everyone. So, check out my very first newsletter: May 2005 Newsletter

From the editorial side of life

Jiu Jitsu
Here are a couple shots from a recent magazine shoot I did. The story is on a group of fighters in the Bay Area who are trying to expand "Ultimate Fighting" in California.

Photography is kind of like a back stage pass to a lot of different people's lives. One day I'm shooting a wedding, the next it's a bunch of guys fighting in the ring, then two days later I'm on a boat with a professional bass fisherman. Rarely a dull moment.

Congratulations to Amanda & Scott

amanda & scott

Amanda gave birth to Oliva Grace on April 17th 2005. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to photograph Amanda and Scott just a few weeks prior to Olivia's birth.

Today is the first day of the rest of my blog.

In my ongoing effort to communicate with everyone I possibly can, I create this blog.
